My early plays all played in and around central Florida where I reside. Seven of these short plays were produced in festivals and small theatres in NYC. Since then, many of my full-length plays have received readings at theatres in Gainesville, FL, Orlando, Chicago, New York, and London. In 2011, I won the Florida Playwright Competition for In the Latter Days, and in 2013 the National Newborn Award for Excellence in Playwriting. In 2016 my play Outside Daughter was showcased at Medicine Show Theatre in NYC. Subsequently, my play, Love You, Bye, won the Paul Stephen Lim Midwestern Playwriting award and was given a reading in Lawrence, KA. Since then, I have had several short plays workshopped, including, “Morning Song,” at ATHE, and my short play “H.R.” at Radio Theatre Project in St. Petersburg. My full-length play, How To Make the Best of Being Homeless, has been given a reading; it has yet to be produced.
I write and direct plays about women who must deal with the dilemmas posed by their immediate circumstances and by the larger social order. Old/young, black/white, ignorant/educated: they struggle to comprehend and to overcome their limitations. My plays invariably attempt to expose and explore female marginalization. They do this, I believe, with compassion and humor; and occasionally, I hope, with poetic language.
